The Council on Accreditation (COA), a national accrediting body approved by the United States Department of State to conduct Hague accreditation and approval reviews, invites the public to provide comment on intercountry adoption service providers seeking Hague accreditation or approval or renewal of Hague accreditation or approval. On January 2nd, 2013, Congress passed legislation that, among other things, made the Adoption Tax Credit permanent. Unlike in the recent past, however, the credit is no longer fully refundable. There is also a website called Save The Adoption Tax Credit which has information regarding the recent legislative changes.
November is National Adoption Month. According to the Children's Bureau, there are currently 104,000 children and youth in foster care across the country waiting for adoptive families. Catholic Charities will hold our quarterly "Adoption Matters" class during National Adoption Month as a "bring your brown bag lunch" and is inviting all who are interested in learning more about adoption. This could be folks thinking about adopting, in addition to family members of those who are considering or have already adopted.
